Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar Resort & Spa, the first Hotel Indigo resort in the Middle East, has officially opened its doors to a one-of-a-kind mountain escape that invites guests to one of Oman’s most captivating neighbourhoods.
Perched at the highest point in the region in the awe-inspiring Hajar Mountains, this boutique hotel blends ancient traditions with contemporary comfort to offer an unforgettable journey of exploration and rejuvenation.
James Reeves, General Manager, said: “Jabal Akhdar is a place of dramatic beauty and hidden surprises waiting to be explored. We’ve curated a collection of experiences that allow our guests to discover the heart of this region – from thrilling mountain hikes and cooking classes showcasing the flavours of Oman to stargazing under the clear night sky, every moment is designed to create lasting memories.”
Design that whispers stories
The essence of Jabal Akhdar is woven into the very fabric of the hotel. Each of its five floors takes on elements of the unique stories inspired by the surrounding neighbourhood – from the delicate and highly prized damask roses to the earthy richness of olives, the vibrant hues of pomegranates, the golden threads of saffron, and the distinctive blues of the centuries-old indigo plant. Even the lobby welcomes guests with a whimsical touch – a handcrafted wooden donkey sculpture, a playful nod to the resilient creatures that have long traversed these mountain paths. This visual narrative blends the rugged beauty of the landscape with the rich traditions of Omani heritage, creating an ambiance that is both strikingly beautiful and deeply connected to the spirit of the place.
The hotel features 173 beautifully designed rooms, suites, and chalets. Guests can choose from a variety of accommodations, including King and Twin Mountain/Canyon View Rooms, spacious two-bedroom Terrace Suites, and luxurious one-bedroom Pool or two-bedroom Balcony Chalets, each offering breathtaking vistas and a serene sanctuary to unwind.
Neighbourhood tales
Hotel Indigo celebrates the character and culture of its surroundings, and Hotel Indigo Jabal Akhdar Resort & Spa is no exception. The Saiq Plateau, where the hotel is located, isn’t just a single mountain peak but a sprawling area of rocky peaks, deep canyons, and wadis, each holding secrets waiting to be discovered. The area’s challenging terrain and dramatic weather patterns, where mist, clouds, rain, and sunshine can all appear in quick succession, have shaped the lives of its resilient inhabitants for centuries, creating a strong bond with the land.
While the landscape may appear barren at first glance, it hides a wealth of natural wonders, from lush wadis and palm oases to terraced orchards and historic villages. The journey to Jabal Akhdar, even with modern roads, evokes a sense of accomplishment and discovery. The contrast between the rugged exterior and the hidden pockets of greenery showcases the resilience of nature and the resourcefulness of the local communities who have thrived in this environment for centuries.

A culinary journey above the clouds
The hotel features three distinctive dining venues, each offering a distinct perspective on the region’s rich flavours. Zaatar, with its modern market kitchen accents, serves international and local delicacies. And, for a taste of old-world charm with a modern twist, Wadi Habib is inspired by the ancient Zanzibari spice trade, where aromatic spices and fresh, local ingredients create a symphony of flavours.
