Costa Rica’s sustainable, experience-based tourism in the spotlight at ITB 2025

Costa Rica is set to give visitors to ITB Berlin 2025 a taste of its dynamic approach to tourism blending sustainability, adventure, and cultural heritage.

Recognized as a global leader in ecotourism, the Central American destination will present its rich biodiversity, extensive conservation efforts, and diverse travel experiences at the show this year.

With over a quarter of its land protected as national parks and reserves, Costa Rica offers a haven for nature enthusiasts. From the lush cloud forests of the Monteverde National Park to the striking beauty of the Rio Celeste river in the Tenorio volcanic park, travelers can immerse themselves in a range of environments, each with its own unique biodiversity. More than 900 bird species, sea turtles, and an array of marine life make Costa Rica a premier destination for wildlife observation and ecotourism.

For adventure seekers, Costa Rica provides world-class surfing, river rafting, hiking, and diving experiences. The country’s diverse geography allows for activities ranging from ziplining through cloud forests to exploring underwater ecosystems along the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. With a strong focus on sustainability, adventure tourism in Costa Rica is designed to support local communities and conservation initiatives.

Beyond nature, Costa Rica’s cultural richness adds depth to the visitor experience. When asked at the airport as they are leaving what travellers enjoyed most about their stay, the vast majority answer “the people.” Costa Ricans know how to make tourists feel welcome and safe. Influenced by a blend of Indigenous, African, and European traditions, the country boasts a vibrant arts scene, historic sites, and a renowned culinary heritage.

The Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT) will also highlight the nation’s Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST) program, a globally recognized standard that encourages responsible travel choices. Lodging and tour operators with CST certification ensure environmentally conscious operations, contributing to the preservation of Costa Rica’s natural and cultural assets.
