Amadeus closes its strongest quarter in 2 years, sees progress across all businesses

Amadeus reported a strong first-quarter global distribution system booking performance with €917.2 million revenue generated, 65.2 per cent of its Q1 2019 revenue. A total of 91.7 million bookings were processed, reaching 56.4 per cent of its Q1 2019 levels.

The number of passengers boarded amounted to 264.0 million, equivalent to 60.5 per cent of Q1 2019 levels ; adjusted profit came in at €95 million for the January to March period in 2022, up by 15 per cent on the previous quarter and representing 28 per cent of what was achieved in Q1 2019 while EBITDA is around 50 per cent of Q1 2019 levels at €295.8 million.

Air distribution revenue soared by 155 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter in 2021 to €446 million, with the airline IT and hosting business bringing in €313 million (up 47 per cent year-over-year but only 26 per cent of Q1 2019’s recorded figure).

Luis Maroto, President & CEO of Amadeus, commented: “The slower start to the year due to the Omicron variant was offset by solid performances across all our segments during the rest of the quarter, making it our best quarterly performance since the start of the pandemic.

“This encouraging progress was possible thanks to recovering travel volumes, and the positive momentum across our businesses with consistent improvements in air bookings and passengers boarded, with North America leading both metrics. In Air Distribution, we continued to have market share gains  during the quarter and in Air IT we started the year with a number of new PSS deals. Hospitality registered the strongest revenue growth rate compared to the previous quarter and is the segment closest to full recovery,” he added.

North America now accounts for 36 per cent  – a huge shift from 21 per cent in Q1 2019 – of all Amadeus air bookings, with Western Europe bringing in 27 per cent, Middle East and Africa at 13 per cent and Asia Pacific at 8 per cent.
