Qantas to restart Perth-London nonstop service

Qantas is set to restart its daily nonstop service between Perth and London from March 27.

The move had been expected but the relaunch had been delayed owing to restrictions imposed in Western Australia. Qantas had temporarily been using Darwin as an alternative departure airport.

As before flights will be operated with 236-seat B787-9s configured with 42 seats in business class, 28 in premium economy and 165 in regular economy.

Qantas had been flying nonstop to London since 2018, and hopes to launch nonstop Sydney-London flights in the years ahead as part of Project Sunrise.

In 2019 we reported that Qantas had selected the Airbus A350-1000 to operate Sydney-London or Sydney-mainland Europe nonstop. However the launch of Sydney-London nonstop has been placed on the back burner owing to the pandemic.

Qantas aims to bring more nonstop flights to Europe in order to compete with the very many indirect airlines who, pre-pandemic, were operating over the kangaroo route.

Further changes remain possible owing to the pandemic and any government restrictions which may be imposed.
