Delta set to launch new fare structure and booking experience this Fall

Delta Air Lines is rolling out a major revamp of its fare structure and booking experience starting this fall, designed to give travelers more flexibility, transparency, and control over their journeys.

Effective May 15, tickets booked for travel on or after October 1, 2025, will reflect newly rebranded seat categories and tiered experiences across Delta’s platforms, including Delta.com and the Fly Delta app. The changes aim to help travelers better match their bookings with their specific needs and preferences.

The traditional fare names like “Main Cabin” and “Basic Economy” are being retired. In their place, customers will now see simplified branding across five main cabin products: Delta Main, Delta Comfort, Delta First, Delta Premium Select, and Delta One.

Within Delta Main—the airline’s core economy offering—three new subcategories are being introduced:

Main Basic: Replaces Basic Economy, maintaining restrictions like limited seat selection, no SkyMiles accrual, and no refunds.

Main Classic: Offers more flexibility including seat choice, mileage accrual, same-day standby, and boarding benefits.

Main Extra: Adds higher mileage earning, full refundability, and top boarding priority.

Similar tiered experiences—Classic and Extra—will be offered for Comfort, First, Premium Select, and Delta One, with some markets featuring “Refundable” fares as the top-tier option.

According to Delta’s Chief Digital Officer Eric Phillips, the overhaul reflects customer demand for greater clarity and personalization in the booking process: “Our reimagined shopping experience gives customers more options and a full picture of all the benefits of flying with Delta.”

Delta’s updated online and app interfaces now allow for easier fare comparisons, with side-by-side views of features like flexibility, refunds, boarding order, and mileage benefits.

The launch is part of Delta’s broader modernization push as the airline looks ahead to its second century of flight. Alongside the fare changes, Delta continues investing in customer experience enhancements like:

  • Fast, free Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members on most domestic and many international flights
  • Personalized seatback screens via Delta Sync
  • Expanded Delta Studio® entertainment library
  • Curated snack and beverage offerings
  • Industry-leading on-time performance

Delta says the new structure empowers travelers to choose the right value for their trip—whether it’s a cost-conscious quick hop or a premium international journey.

The new product names and fare options apply to flights originating from the U.S. and Canada, with rollout set to be completed by October 1, 2025.
