Finnair’s most northerly destination, situated in remote Norway, tops the list of new network-wide enhancements being introduced as part of the airline’s continuing expansion. The new schedule will see the launch of the new Nordic destination, in addition to increased frequencies to the airline’s most popular destinations in Europe, Asia and North America.
In anticipation of a bumper 2025, the Finnish airline has unveiled plans to serve the Norwegian town of Kirkenes from April 1, 2025 – its 27th Nordic destination – for the summer season.
The new destination will be Finnair’s most-northerly gateway, beating the Norwegian city of Tromsø which had previously held the title.
Flights between Helsinki and Kirkenes will operate three times per week*, via Ivalo, on the airline’s 68-seat ATR72 regional aircraft, making this the only scheduled international flight to the airport.
Situated at the beginning of the Siberian Taiga and bordered by the Arctic Ocean, Kirkenes combines untamed nature with its rich Second World War history.
Being 400 miles north of the Arctic Circle, Kirkenes is also one of the world’s leading destinations to spot the Northern Lights during the darker months, and the starting point for Hurtigruten’s Arctic cruises.

As part of the airline’s summer expansion, flights to Japan will also receive a boost, with the airline set to offer customers daily flights to both Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita in summer 2025.
The airline’s newest route to Nagoya, set to relaunch this summer, will also gain another weekly flight in 2025, meaning customers will enjoy three weekly services to the Japanese city.
Across Europe, Finnair has added flights to a number of its most popular destinations, including the Baltic capitals Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius.
In the US, Finnair will be saying ‘howdy’ to Texas, with flights to Dallas becoming daily from October 2024, up from four times per week in Winter 2023.
All services have been specifically timed to allow for easy connections from top UK airports, London Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh and the Irish capital Dublin.
