Radisson Collection has strengthened its presence in Italy with the opening of its sixth hotel, the highly anticipated Radisson Collection Hotel, Roma Antica.
Nestled in the heart of Rome’s historic city center, the hotel is situated in a prime location near the iconic Altare della Patria, the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia, and ancient ruins of Largo di Torre Argentina, Capitolium Hill. The hotel’s alluring aesthetics and ideal location make it a remarkable example of our luxury offering. With this new addition, we take pride in moving closer towards our goal of achieving 30 hotels in Italy by 2027 as a testament to our unwavering commitment to Italy’s tourism industry.”
Through the sensitive renovation of the historic palazzo to create Radisson Collection Hotel, Roma Antica a hidden archaeological gem was uncovered. A fragment of the ancient perimeter wall of the Porticus Minucia from the imperial era was uncovered, allowing for a first of its kind reconstruction. Additionally, a three-dimensional model of the monument was created, making it possible to identify its exact location in relation to today’s urban fabric. During construction, the project was expanded to enhance the archaeological remains, which is visitable in the basement of the hotel, accompanied by a multimedia video presenting the three-dimensional reconstruction of the Porticus Minucia. The excavation, carried out between May and July 2020, was overseen by the archaeologist from the Superintendence, Marta Baumgartner, who expressed her pride in the discovery: “The discovery is a source of pride for us because, for the first time, we see the walls of the Porticus Minucia standing and the marble decorations that adorned them.”
Guests are invited to indulge in delightful cuisine at Roma Antica’s restaurant, Modius, celebrating authentic Roman dishes such as Carbonara, Gnocchi and Amatriciana. Drawing inspiration from the historic Porticus Minucia Frumentaria, where free grain distributions once took place, Modius offers original Roman fare centered around fresh local ingredients. The menu is a modern-day interpretation of ancient traditions, celebrating heritage, local flavors, and the enduring connection between past and present. The culinary offering is rooted in the ancient tradition of “Cura Annonae,” meaning “Care of Annona,” the Roman goddess of grain supply, as Modius offers modern-day patrons a bounty of locally sourced, high-quality ingredients, elegantly prepared to honor the hotel’s rich heritage.
Guests can soak up unforgettable views and savor delicious cocktails at Modius on the Roof – Terrazza, located on the 8th floor. Providing an unforgettable experience, the cocktail bar serves Italian-style snacks and signature cocktails, while offering awe-inspiring 360-degree views of the Eternal City, including landmarks such as the Altare della Patria in Piazza Venezia and the splendid Pantheon. Modius on the Roof – Terrazza is the perfect location to enjoy an elegant aperitivo, a romantic evening, or a fun night out with friends surrounded by stunning views of Rome.
