InterContinental Hotels & Resorts mark entry into Auckland’s Waterfront

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts luxury and lifestyle portfolio, has made its debut in New Zealand’s largest city with the opening of InterContinental Auckland. Gracing the city’s waterfront at the halo address of One Queen Street, InterContinental Auckland anchors the one billion dollar (NZD) Commercial Bay lifestyle precinct, which houses the city’s latest upscale office, retail, social, and dining hub.

InterContinental Auckland is also one of the first hotels globally to showcase exciting new offerings and experiences that were introduced as part of InterContinental’s extensive global brand evolution announced in 2023. These elements were born to captivate the imagination of modern luxury travelers, satisfying their desire for unrivaled knowledge and culturally rich experiences.

The hotel offers 139 thoughtfully designed guestrooms and suites, with the majority accentuating the finest aspects of Auckland with scenic city and water views, set on the 6th to the 11th floor. Each room features a Whariki (woven panel), selected by Beronia Scott and Te Pūawai Ōrākei Marae, the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei weaving collective, helping guests embrace the locale’s unique culture.

In partnership with internationally renowned chef, Gareth Stewart, Advieh Restaurant & Bar opens as the hotel’s all-day dining destination, presenting a contemporary twist on Middle Eastern inspired cuisine while championing New Zealand’s finest produce. Advieh, which translates to ‘spice’ in Persian, was chosen to encapsulate the essence of spice and flavor that is at the heart of the restaurant and bar. Gareth’s culinary vision offers a relaxed dining experience, emphasizing sharing plates with a lively ambience enriched by delightful aromas and energy.

Beyond the restaurant itself, Advieh will influence the hotel’s Club InterContinental lounge (opening in June 2024) as well as the hotel’s in-room dining menu, allowing guests to experience a similar culinary experience in the comfort of their room. Menu items, including the new ‘Nourish Bowls,’ bring to life the brand’s commitment to delivering intentional flexibility by offering guests a range of nutritionally balanced, science-based dishes that reflect differing guest needs throughout the day. In addition to the food and beverage programs, InterContinental has also introduced a range of scientifically backed solutions to help reduce fatigue, including complimentary access to Timeshifter, a jet lag app that enables all guests to use the latest circadian science to adjust quickly to new time zones.

Rich storytelling continues through the hotel with a comprehensive art collection enlisted through Coupland Cormack, prioritizing local and Iwi artists, with a heavy influence on Māori culture. The hotel lobby is adorned with a feature installation designed by international contemporary artist, Nike Savvas, while photos by New Zealand artist, Fiona Pardington, are displayed in each room.

With its unrivaled location, the hotel, restaurant and bar stand proudly on Waitematā Harbour, the city’s famous waterfront. The hotel provides a perfectly located vantage point for Auckland’s city business district, offering direct access to the city’s main transport terminals, shopping centres and world-class dining facilities, and is just a 30-minute drive from Auckland Airport.

The hotel will also open a 24-hour fitness centre with direct access to Commercial Bay which features some of the country’s most premium retail outlets, as well as a rooftop bar on level 21 to open later in the year, independently owned by renowned hospitality experts, Five Fellas.
