Accor has announced its first property in Central Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, with the opening of Mercure Pangkalan Bun. Located a 15-minute drive from Iskandar Airport, the hotel offers an ideal location for business and leisure travelers to discover the city uniquely with genuinely local experiences.

Pangkalan Bun, the capital of West Kotawaringin Regency in Central Kalimantan Province, serves as a gateway to the renowned Tanjung Puting National Park, conveniently accessible from Mercure Pangkalan Bun. Tanjung Puting National Park is recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and holds immense significance as the most important conservation area for orangutans worldwide, spanning an area of approximately 4,150 square kilometres.
The hotel’s close proximity to Istana Kuning and Istana Mangkubumi offers a delightful opportunity for guests to discover the rich heritage and culture of Kutaringin.

“We are pleased to unveil Mercure Pangkalan Bun, a hotel that brings together the best of both worlds for travelers”, said Garth Simmons, Chief Executive Officer of Accor’s Premium, Midscale and Economy Division Asia. “Guests can embark on a captivating journey to explore the wonders of Kalimantan, immersing themselves in its beauty and charm, all while enjoying the familiar comforts and exceptional standards that the Mercure brand is globally recognized for. This hotel opening is not only a significant milestone for the tourism sector in the area, but also plays a significant role in supporting the province’s infrastructure by providing high-quality accommodation and fostering a deep connection with the local community.”

As the pioneering global hotel brand in Pangkalan Bun, Mercure Pangkalan Bun brings a true reflection of the city’s cultural essence. This is reflected in the names of hotel facilities and the hotel’s design, including 150 stylish and contemporary rooms ranging from Premium Superior Rooms to Presidential Suite.

The lobby features a stunning “Rumah Betang,” inspired by the traditional houses of Central Kalimantan’s Dayak tribe, known for their communal spirit and unity. The interior design incorporates natural elements such as woven rattan and wood, embracing the area’s connection to nature. Kelakai, the all-day dining restaurant, showcases a vibrant and contemporary ambiance, offering a delectable blend of international and local cuisines referred to as ‘Glo-Cal’ flavors. Inspired by the indigenous Kelakai plant found exclusively in Central and South Kalimantan, the restaurant presents menus that cater to diverse tastes throughout the day. Guests can experience the culinary expertise of the hotel’s culinary team as they prepare a wide selection of dishes in the open kitchen setting. The Malining lobby lounge invites guests to indulge in specialty coffee and a delightful assortment of pastries. Palapas Bar offers a range of light meals and an enticing cocktail menu, while providing a breath-taking night time panorama of the city. For guests seeking wellness and leisure, the Danum Pool Bar, situated on the wellness floor, allows them to unwind in the gym, spa, sauna, salon, and swimming pool area.

The distinctive culinary offerings at Mercure Pangkalan Bun embrace the essence of the local region by incorporating locally sourced ingredients. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with welcome drinks such as Batuah Tea, Betang Mojito, and Mercure Libero, each designed to provide a unique and refreshing experience. Furthermore, the hotel promotes sustainability by utilizing Purun eco straws, an environmentally friendly local product, as part of its sustainability initiatives and to support local producers.

With the largest pillarless ballroom in town, equipped with cutting-edge technology, Mercure Pangkalan Bun stands ready to become the destination of choice for event planners. The elegant Batuah Ballroom sets the stage for unforgettable weddings, corporate meetings and social events, accommodating up to 650 delegates.
